Why is “très” used with “avoir” in certain expressions? And speaking of bloody details, it's crucial, not crutial ;-) (and you may want to be careful with the usage of bloody too, by the way) |

Why is “très” used with “avoir” in certain expressions? I thought so too, but nope. The TLFi mentions explicitely grand-faim and also says a few things about it in the ethymology section, including "Ces loc. étaient écrites, à tort, avec une apostrophe comme s'il s'agissait d'une élision." |

When is it okay to add “re” before a verb? And there are cases where both verbs actually have more or less the same meaning: culer is a specific boating term which essentially means the same as reculer. |

Usage of “mettre” with direct and indirect object Some other examples showing both direct and indirect objects: Je mets ma montre à mon poignet gauche (I put my watch on my left wrist); Peter Sagan met la main aux fesses d'une hôtesse (Peter Sagan puts his hand on a podium girl's behind) |

Why is “très” used with “avoir” in certain expressions? In short, it's actually an improper usage of très, but the usage is extremely common so that nobody will consider it incorrect. Funnily enough, the link doesn't say what the proper form would be. J'ai beaucoup de faim is certainly incorrect, so you'd have to use J'ai une grande faim or J'ai grand-faim (for extra pedantic points) Anyway, go eat something already. |

Peut-on mettre l'expression bouche bée au pluriel ? Techniquement, si, bée est toujours un adjectif féminin, même si il ne s'emploie en effet plus que dans cette expressions |
