comment Is it necessary to use guillemets when quoting in French, or may one use English-style doublequotes?
@awoodland you're right, I should have precise that my experience is only about French from France :-)

@Jez As I said, you'd better look at the paper version than the online one. The latter is way less strict about French writing, for many reasons (quick editing, less review, windows keyboards :-) )

@Jez not as much, but you always need an inflexible reference to refer to. And you'll see, the Académie française will be a frequent reference for this site :-)

comment How can one say “good morning” in French?
That's why I don't like to say 'Bonsoir', I never know when I can start to use it... It's always the morning somewhere in the world :-)

comment Is it necessary to use guillemets when quoting in French, or may one use English-style doublequotes?
@Jez: kinda true, but is it right to change an established rule because of an inadequate tool (the keyboard) or our lack of patience to learn how to properly do it?

@Portal Brony2040: true, but I don't use that kind of software, as I don't trust their hability to automatically correct my typing.

@Benjol: it depends on your OS, I don't know for Windows, but on Linux, you can have them with Alt-gr+w and Alt-gr+x.

comment Is it necessary to use guillemets when quoting in French, or may one use English-style doublequotes?
@wok: of course, but bépo is very marginal... In fact, it is very easy to produce guillemets with a AZERTY keyboard on Linux, but I choose not to speak about it, as it is not the major case.
