How does one “give someone a telephone call” in French? @RomainVALERI curieusement, ici en Amérique du Nord (anglophone) on ne connait pas du tout cette pratique de "sonner" et raccrocher. Une expression analogue n'existe pas en anglais, mais je connais aussi le verbe tchèque "prozvonit" de même façon, par example pour annoncer notre arrivée ("je suis là") sans autre message. Peut-être seulement un truc Européen? |

Comment traduiriez-vous le proverbe anglais « there’s honor among thieves »? Je n'ai jamais entendu dog does not eat dog en anglais. On dit plutôt dog eat dog quand il s'agit d'une situation impitoyable. |

Why does French use a “split negative”? Interesting! Is "pas" therefore the same word as the noun "un pas" (a step)? I get that impression when looking at the helper words (a crumb, nut, drop, button, etc.). It seems to make sense in the same way English would say "I don't like it one bit". |
